PACE (Purposeful, Action, Creation, Engagement) Plan

The PACE program aims to foster positive relationships between community leaders, law enforcement, and the Bike Life Movement youth in Redwood City and North Fair Oaks. Youth also have the opportunity to shape programming meant for them and share their experiences through storytelling.

Milestones

FY23-24

  • PACE will be launching a Youth Advisory Board in 2024, engaging PACE youth

  • Completion of the YEEE! program with 39 youth, 8 of whom received employment upon program completion.

  • Started PACE Flex Program at Sequoia High School where there are currently 55 students enrolled.

  • The City of Redwood City issued a Proclamation, recognizing Pal Center and RWCT for their work on this initiative

  • Created on-the-ground & advisory groups made up of members from Partner CBOs who have youth engagement and policy experience

  • Offer various enrichment programs Monday through Saturday at the Pal Center:

    • Boxing, Basketball, and Strength training programs: 60 youth engaged: 15 Basketball, 25 Strength Training, 14 Boxing

  • Provide field trips & community engagement opportunities for youth:

    • Community Mural painting: 12 youth engaged

    • ALAS Community Field Trip: 24 youth engaged

    • Friendship Park Clean up with SMC Parks Foundation: 19 youth engaged

    • Farmworker Food Distribution in Collaboration with DreamersRoadmap and ChaseLove: 5 youth engaged

    • Hosted Teen Short Film Premier night at Pal: 30 youth-engaged

    • Streetlife Ministries/Rise Church Collaboration - Homeless Food Distribution in Downtown Redwood City: 18 youth engaged

    • Teen Takeover program for over 100 teens at the Red Morton Teen Center in July 2023 in collaboration with PRCS

    • PAL Center hosted a youth event with partner YMCA on July 28, 2023; 30 youth present

  • Organize biking Rideouts in collaboration with Redwood City PD:

    • Turboo/LIP competition on 8/ 11: 45 of youth attended

    • PACE Downtown Kickback on 9/8: 60 of youth attended

    • Rideout/Competition on 9/ 16: 25 Students from EPA and RWC

FY22-23

  • The program was created with the Pal Center, Redwood City Together, and most importantly, the youth

  • The RWC IDEAL team, Police Advisory Committee, Pal Center, and RWC Together co-hosted the PAC Town Hall on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, which engaged 126 community members. Qualitative data given by community members provided feedback on how to address gaps in public safety when it comes to mental health, homelessness, RWC police activities, and community relationships
